Insubong accommodation&transportation 2019 in English

This was my 3rd time in Insubong Korea and this time I got my knee dislocated right before the trip so I did mainly Bata collecting.

1)Accommodation

Climbers used to sleep and eat in Beagun shelter but After the owner Mr. Lee had died, they are not accepting overnight guests.

So climbers has to find the accommodation elsewhere.  I personally believe this time we made a best choice in the selection of accommodation.

We stayed here.

It is located near the Suyu Ranger station, and the closet subway station is April 19th National Cemetery station in Bukhansan Ui subway line, which is a new subway line so the google map, at least Japanese one did not showed the location of the station, so be careful.

The reason why we loved this place is;

1)Location, nice neighborhood with a lot of cafe and restaurants
2)reasonable price yet clean and private
3)Free wifi

The apartment is located near Konlon Apline school, and a Youth Center with artificial climbing wall.

See the detail for apartment here.

They've got all you need in the neighborhood.

2) Commuting

We used a taxi to Dosonsa(= Deagundae Information Center), it is about 8000KRW.

Altarnative is to use subway, the closest subway station is Bukhansan Ui station, which is 2 station away from the 4.19 memorial station.

On our way back home, we used a taxi to get down to the subway Bukhansan Ui station, the cost was 4200KRW for sharing with other hikers. So it is not much.

You can buy a IC card for paying the transportation, including subway, bus. Sometimes taxi driver accepts the IC card payment.

3) Eating

We bought our food in nearest convenience store GS 25 and had dinner at Bukhansan Ui and near our accommodation. There are so many selection. Choose one you like.

We paied about 10000KRW for dinner.

4) Rest day

I was so happy to find Dulegil this time.  There are a nice walking trails are prepared around the neighborhood so you can relax in outdoor.  Bring a mosquito net and a bug spray.

Bukhansan National park is a big area and not just Insubong, there are so many peaks to see, so if you feel like hike, the trail entrance called Academy house is nearby, only 10 min walk, and Ranger station(visitor center) sells a map(Only in Korean but you can guess mostly) cheaply.  Don't trust their information though, since I was told the trail will take me 4 hours but it was actually 1 hour... so I kind of think those ranger people are not mountaineer...

5) Map

Those are the maps I found it very useful to get around.

Especially, Gangbuk-gu, City of History, Culture and Tourism was the only map that shows the actual location of the subway stations of Bukhansan Ui line.

6) Best routes to climb

is perhaps;

Chouinard B  the most popular route among Japanese climbers
Uidae            the most popular route among Korean climbers

I have a topo book handed down from my climbing mentor but I don't see any climbing shop selling the guide book.  I wonder if there is any English one.
